I have been caring for wife since she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease five years ago and have been supported by Involve Carers since we moved into the area two years ago. I have received a lot of support from them during this time.
I have been given information and guidance about local services that can provide additional support for my wife and they have ensured we are getting all the financial assistance we are entitled to. They advised and assisted me to be placed on my GP Carers’ register and my GP is very supportive too.
I have received a Carers’ Assessment that resulted in a plan of support being put in place to help me to continue caring through difficult times, including additional care services for my wife. I have also attended a wonderful course called Caring with Confidence, this helped me particularly as a male carer, and through this have also made some very good friends with fellow carers. Following the course we continue to meet together monthly, and have access to free alternative care to enable me to attend these activities have been arranged by the Project.
I also have regular phone calls from Maisie as part of the ‘Keeping in Touch’ service and I now always know who to turn should I need help as things change. Involve Carers have made a big difference to my life.
