Falls Prevention

The recorded cost of fractures as a result of falls in the older population to the NHS in England is £1.8 Billion a year (DoH Prevention Package 2009). However, the cost to the individual cannot be counted so precisely. Frequent fallers can suffer more non physical effects; loss of self-confidence as well as social withdrawal, confusion and loneliness can occur even when there has been no injury (Tinetti, 1988)

Involve offer progressive exercise classes to those over 65 (55 with long term illness/disability) who have had a fall or fear falling. These structured classes are designed specifically to improve strength, increase stamina, raise participant’s confidence and significantly improve their posture.
The courses run for 36 weeks for 1.5 hours per week, where not only do we lead the exercises but also provide social time afterwards for refreshments and information exchange, helping participants improve their friendship circle and assist with mental wellbeing too.

We also offer self-funded maintenance classes on a continuous basis as well as a chair-based class for those who need to remain seated.
