COMMUNITY TRANSPORT

Involve Transport use Volunteer Drivers to provide transport for people who cannot manage on public transport because of age, frailty, illness, disability or injury.

 

Our clients need to live within the Maidstone and Malling area however the journeys can be anywhere in the UK – we cover trips to London Hospital’s as well as specialist hospitals and clinics around the country.

All trips are tentative – we take booking details and then go out to the Volunteer Drivers to check their availability and if they are happy to take the trip.  We would need at least 1 weeks’ notice for booking requests and will try our best to find a driver, we are extremely busy!

Volunteers use their own car’s (we do not have any wheelchair accessible vehicles at present unfortunately) so all clients must be able to get in and out of a standard car. The drivers will assist if clients are frail and they are happy to take mobility aids if they are able to fold and put in the boot (wheelchairs, frames, rollators, etc) – we would need to know this in advance.

All drivers have an advanced DBS check, and have their own car insurance which covers volunteer driving.

 

There is a charge for the service as follows:

 

Booking Fees

  • £4 per standard booking (trip within 75 miles)

  • £5 per group booking – this would be two or more passengers from different addresses (within 75 miles)

  • £10 long journey booking (over 75 miles/outside of Kent)

 

We also charge 45 pence per mile – this is calculated for the drivers full mileage cost for doing each trip.

 

We can offer 3 types of trips: One way, Wait & Return (driver will wait up to 2 hrs), Double (appointment over 2 hrs, driver will return home and collect at a later time)

Payment

  • If a client is paying the driver direct – he can take cash only on the day

  • Some clients are unable to handle money so we are happy to invoice them by post or email a family member who will pay by Cheque or BACs

  • If a company is covering the cost of the booking we will email an invoice again which can be paid by Cheque or BACs

  • Invoices are sent out at the end of the month (we are always a month behind as we have to wait for the drivers to submit their monthly returns)
