Caring for someone

Do you look after a partner, relative or friend with a long-term physical or mental health condition, age related difficulties, disability or addiction, who could not manage without your support?

There are lots of reasons why you may have to start caring for someone, and this can happen to anyone at any stage in their life.

We understand that you may not think of yourself as a carer, but if you are 16 and over and provide care and support to an adult (18 and over), then our Carers Service is for you.

How we can help

We can help you identify what services or support might be helpful to you and help you to access it. We can inform you of your rights as a carer and any benefits you may be entitled to.

We will take the time to talk with you and discuss what impact caring may be having on your health and your life. We will develop a personalised support plan with you which will identify what needs you are eligible for and what help is available to you.

We provide this service on behalf of Kent County Council.

This is a dedicated service for young adult carers aged 16 to 24, providing access to information, advice, guidance and 1 to 1 support to ensure you can live the life you want to lead. The service also facilitates support groups and activities to meet other young adult carers.

See more about this service here.

If you or the person you care for is admitted to Maidstone or Tunbridge Wells hospitals, our dedicated Hospital Navigators are availableThey can support you to ensure a safe discharge which this may include brokered support to help you with your caring role on discharge from hospital.

Our team of friendly Navigators offer a listening ear for you to talk about your caring role and any concerns you may have.

There are opportunities to meet other carers at support groups, workshops, Carers Forum and activities (face to face and virtual). You can also access the Kent Carers’ Emergency Card so that someone close to you can be contacted to support with your caring role in an emergency, and we can help you to draw up an emergency plan for if you are unwell or in hospital.

Feeling overwhelmed and not sure what services would be best? We are here to help.

“I didn’t have the courage to reach out before I had my Carer’s Assessment, but my Community Navigator didn’t pass judgement and we worked together to help me identify what I needed, one step at a time. I am so grateful for the support I received, I have my life back again. The difference she made is immeasurable.”
